Cupcake Delights from M Street

At LAST!  I finally have the time and energy to care about cupcakes and blog again.  For those that are unaware, I have now completed nine weeks of my demonstration (student) teaching.  I am now in fourth grade, and it is going very well.  And this class can run itself, which always makes life easier.  Because it is easier to write a lesson on ordering fractions than one that teaches the concept of numbers and sets of ten, my brain has also freed up some room for my love of cupcakes.

That said, many moons ago, I visited my paradise: Georgetown Cupcake.  It truly lives up to the hype and is a must-see attraction for visitors to DC.  As I walked by GC, I realized Sprinkles was close-by-and I simply HAD to try the West Coast's Magnolia.  So, I bought a few more.  I tasted a wide variety of flavors, and cannot WAIT to share my thoughts about them with you.

As you can see, this was a tasty array of treats.  The August flavors at GC were Banana Split and Blueberry Cheesecake-moe on those in a bit.  At Sprinkles, I was excited to try their Cinnamon Sugar and Chocolate Marshmallow cupcakes.  Even though I hate marhmallows.  What can I say?  Cupcakes take me on sensory adventures.  We should all throw caution to the wind once in awhile and try something outside our comfort zone. This may mean sky-diving for you, but a well-crafted cupcake that goes beyond the realm of chocolate or vanilla is my idea of living dangerously.

This Blueberry Cheesecake delight? One of the BEST cupcakes ever.  As I've said before, I love cupcake that are inspired by other desserts.  In this case, this is a cupcake that actually tastes like blueberry cheesecake.  I have no idea how they did this, but the crust is yummy and full of brown sugar and buttery crunchy goodness.  The blueberry has that wonderful tart and sweet gem, and the cheesecake flavor brings it all together.  I cannot wait until summer 2012 so I can eat this again.
The Key Lime cupcake is my all-time regular menu fave at GC.  It is tangy, sweet, light, airy, tropical goodness.  And a flamingo napkin, a boat drink and some Jimmy Buffett, and you're in the Keys.

I don't feel like my photo does the GC Banana Split cupcake justice.  I have made this cupcake myself twice, and it is super fun.  But Georgetown has outdone themselves with this cupcake.  The chocolate & vanilla flavors are strong and delicious, and the toppings make you feel like a kid again-going to Baskin'n Robbins after h yearly concert/recital/torture for parents.  this treat is great in summer or winter-I think it would be a fun addition to any kid's February birthday party.

The dark-chocolate covered chocolate marshmallow cupcake!  It was so smooth and pretty that it suckered me in.  Unfortunately, this Sprinkles treat was not my fave.  But if you like chocolate and marshmallow, you just might fall in love.  Sprinkles cake is such a well-tested, perfected recipe.  It is light and airy yet dense at the same time.  I want to crack their magical cupcake code

Since it' November, I highly recommend the Caramel Apple cupcake at GC.  It is in my top-5 of best cupcakes EVER from ANYWHERE, and they are not available all the time.  !

Writing has inspired me to find more cupcakes and even to bake-yay!
